Our recent evening at Gimlet was nothing short of extraordinary!

Nestled within the historic Cavendish House on Russell Street, this renowned restaurant, ranking 84th in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, exudes classic European charm in the heart of Melbourne.

From the moment we stepped into the beautifully restored 1920s building, we knew we were in for a special experience. Gimlet’s menu is a masterpiece, seamlessly blending classic European flavours with contemporary Australian culinary techniques. Every dish, cooked to perfection in their wood-fired oven, left us in awe.

Our Taste Journey at Gimlet was a symphony of flavours:
- We began with Gnocco fritto, bresaola, and parmesan, setting the stage for an evening of culinary delight.
- A luxurious Caviar service added an element of opulence to our meal.
- Their Country sourdough, served with the dreamiest cultured butter, was an irresistible indulgence.
- San Jose saucisson and Sicilian green olives provided a delightful balance of flavours.

The main courses were nothing short of revelatory:

- The Roast corn-fed chicken, adorned with salsa verde, was a tender and flavorful masterpiece.
- Wood-roasted WA rock lobster, delicately prepared, practically melted in our mouths.
- The massive Dry-aged O’Connor T-Bone steak, accompanied by heavenly condiments, was a carnivore’s dream come true.
The sides and desserts sealed the deal, showcasing Gimlet’s attention to detail:
- Crispy French fries added a satisfying crunch to our meal.
- The fresh Cavendish House salad was a refreshing complement.
- Baked Valrhona chocolate, paired with crème fraîche, was a decadent conclusion to our savoury journey.
- Apple and sorrel gelato, frozen meringue, and preserved blueberries provided a sweet and tangy delight.
- And, of course, the perfect Affogato, featuring espresso and vanilla gelato, was a delightful finale.
Our evening at Gimlet was a treasure we’ll cherish forever. It was a celebration of fine dining, where every dish was a work of art, every bite a revelation, and every moment a testament to the culinary excellence that Melbourne has to offer.
